As temperatures drop in the Netherlands, ice skating fever begins to rise. This is also the case in the village of De Koog on the Wadden Island Texel. In cooperation with Sidijk, ‘IJsclub de Koog’ was able to open Sidijk’s first mobile ice rink, featuring none other than former top speed skater Rintje Ritsma.
From ice pit to ice rink The Koger Ice Club had previously attempted to create a makeshift ice rink, an idea that emerged during a social evening a few years ago. Unfortunately, the club was not able to produce a proper rink suitable for skating. Kees Moorman, a member of IJsclub de Koog, reached out to Sidijk and presented his idea.
Paddings and boardings With its market-leading position as a manufacturer of ice rink boardings, Sidijk is also constantly innovating. The request and challenge for a mobile ice rink fit perfectly with our expertise. And it resulted in a successful outcome!
Freezing point After two nights of ground frost, the time has come: ice skating is possible! The mobile ice rink measures 38×20 meters and features an inflatable edge that serves both as a barrier and as padding. Beneath the ice lies a canvas the size of the rink. The combination of this canvas and the edge creates an insulating effect. As a result, even with a thin layer of water, a beautiful ice rink quickly forms, ready for use!
Festive opening This first mobile ice rink from Sidijk was officially opened by former long-track speed skater Rintje Ritsma. Under the watchful eyes of IJsclub de Koog and the director of Sidijk, a ribbon was cut to officially open the rink for children up to the age of 13. Due to COVID-19 measures, only this group is allowed to use the rink, but parents are of course welcome to help with tying skates and to watch.
